My Story
As a little girl, my parents have always instill in my sisters and me the art of self-care through moisturizing our skin. One of my fondest memories growing up is my mom grabbing her jar of Shea Butter, or as we lovingly call it Donut Grease in Liberia, speaking affirmations and massaging my skin until my body would shimmer from it’s natural glow. While in middle and high school, I received the nickname ashy police due to the fact that I would share my butters with friends and family anytime I would see them with ashy hands. Throughout my undergrad and graduate studies, I would always experiment with different body scrub recipes that would provide my body a smooth canvas for my body butters. As always, I would share my goodies with my girlfriends anytime they would stop by my dorm during their visits.
During my time in Peru, I would use the Donut Grease along with my home made scrubs religiously to prevent my skin from being rough and dull. On one of my many adventures, I came across Murumuru butter: Shea butter’s Amazonian cousin, which would give me the same glow that my mom’s Donut Grease would. Using the Murumuru butter came in handy whenever I ran out of my Donut Grease.
In the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, I noticed that my nurse family members and friends would leave their jobs with their hands extremely rough and dry due to the frequent hand washing protocols. I decided to use my love for self-care to provide a natural alternative to the body creams and scrubs that were in the market through my body butters and scrubs. I created Chea Glory with my family to share our love for naturally glowing skin while promoting self-care.
